Description

The shock of 9/11 did not only rock the western world. In the developing world its consequences are being felt as well.
Many undemocratic regimes use their so-called 'war against terrorism' as a license to curb the opposition. Borders are closed, refugee camps are flooded with tens of thousands of people.

The Dutch relief organisation TPO provides aid to survivors of war and violence throughout the world. With local employees who are usually victims themselves. Every year a number of them come together for an international training. This time in Adjumani, northern Uganda. The aim is to learn from the experiences of fellow sufferers from other cultures. And with that give a new impulse to their relief work in their own country.

Cambodian Leang Lo has become a psychologist. He assists victims of the notorious Khmer Rouge regime of Pol Pot.
Tibetans Nawal Thupten en Chime Dorje are trained as social workers in Tibetan refugee camps in India.
Their Buddhist beliefs teach them that it is necessary to first face a horrible past. Only then someone can bring his life back into balance.
