The company

JOOP VAN WIJK (1950), studied Medicine in Utrecht, became MD in 1975 and worked in the field of Medicine in Africa and The Netherlands. In 1978 he took up filmmaking with partner Hillie Molenaar in the independent production company MOLENWIEK FILM, Amsterdam. Since 1995, when Hillie Molenaar left the company Joop van Wijk is the sole owner of Molenwiek Film.

Molenwiek Film produced and directed a great number of documentaries and short films, including the award winning THE FACTORY (1980), ALTER EGO (1986), CANNOT RUN AWAY (1988), THE SENTENCE (1989), ISINGIRO HOSPITAL (1993) and THE DAILY NATION (2000).

From 1994 on, Molenwiek Film is also involved in the (co) production of feature films.
This started with the African film XIME by Sana Na N'Hada (selected for Un Certain Regard, Cannes 1994) and was continued with the Dutch language feature film, THE DANDELION GAME (Selected for Cannes Junior 1996), directed by Peter van Wijk.

Joop van Wijk participated in the sessions of EAVE (1993), the Film Business School in Ronda, Spain (1996) and is a graduate of COMPANY 1999/2000 - Management Training for Producers of the Binger Film Institute, Amsterdam.

Since 2001 van Wijk is partner in the independent film production company DÉJÀ VU ENTERTAINMENT with animation film producer Jan Snoerwang (Animation World).

Joop van Wijk will continue to (co)produce and direct own projects, documentary & fiction.
Besides, Molenwiek Film will take part in international co productions of films with other producers in specific projects and/or with new and original talent.

Projects in development

• PINKERTEE & THE SECRET OF TIME , feature length fiction for young children, based upon the works of the Dutch writer Dick laan (Déjà Vu Entertainment).
• IMITATIO IGNATIO documentary about the life and times of Father Joop Beek, a Dutch Jesuit priest in Indonesia in the 1960’s.
